Savage Field is located at 36 Vale Street
As the most athletic property managed by the department, informally known around town as “the Vale Street Playground” the property is formally named Savage Field after one John J. Savage who is a casualty from World War 1. Savage answered his country’s call to serve and became a corporal in Company K 26th Yankee Division in WW1. He died in France in 1918 of pneumonia. Corporal Savage was an excellent athlete with his game of choice being baseball. He played with “The Christophians” which was a team based out of Clinton sponsored by St. John’s T.A.S.M.A Society. This athletic complex which is bordered by Water, Vale, and Branch Streets was named in Savage’s honor shortly after WW1 and is a fitting match. This property which is located in a flood zone has seen many positive changes over the last decade and is one of the most popular parks in town.
The Clinton Parks & Recreation Department has established a multi-phase renovation plan for this property. We have recently completed part of phase 1 with the addition of the playground and pavilion. In the months and years to come residents can look forward to an improved parking area, new skate park, improved lighting and upgrades to the fields.
All events, gatherings and functions at the property must be approved by the Clinton Parks and Recreation Department. Please click here for details on the reservation process.
